How to Crush Your Goals this Year
Did you hit your goals this past year? If not, you’re not alone 🙂
This next year, though, you can be armed and dangerous with these 6 keys to guarantee you hit them for sure this time.
1. Define why you did NOT hit your goals this past year
Dig deep and be real honest with yourself and ask these questions:
1) Did you have a mentor?
I have many, some I see face to face, others I follow and invest in their training because they have the success that I want. If you have one (or more), are you actually doing what they say to do? Are you being coachable? If you are, you’re on the right track.
2) Did you have an accountability partner?
I don’t mean a cheerleader either 🙂 A REAL accountability partner “holds your feet to the fire” and doesn’t let you slide when you don’t reach your goals. Right now, I have one that sends me text messages to check up on me. Something fun could be to have a reward system when you reach small goals along the way. Others have money attached to it, maybe giving money to your favorite charity when you don’t hit your goals.
3) Did you plug in?
Did you go to events? Were you on conference calls? At meetings? Did you invest in yourself daily with personal or leadership development? In our profession of network marketing you absolutely have to do these things and stretch yourself if you expect to grow your income and reach your goals.
2. Why do you want what you want?
Why do you want your WHY? What’s driving you to want that? Is it a feeling of significance? Is it to prove someone else wrong? Or maybe to prove it to yourself that you can do it? If you don’t know what’s driving you, you will have a really difficult time reaching your goals.
3. What happens if you DON’T hit your goals?
I was recently at the Tony Robbins live event called Unleash the Power Within, where we did something called The Dickens exercise and it was extremely powerful. You need to really think about this: what will your life be like if you don’t reach these goals? Is there some major pain associated with that? Or, will it be “no big deal” if you don’t reach them? Will life go on and be just as comfortable? If there’s no pain, likelihood is you probably won’t reach them. There HAS to be definitely consequences of NOT reaching your goals that you can see in your future. You need to visit that place, of not reaching them, and feel how it will feel. This can be a huge motivator!
4. Be specific with your goals
If you have something written down like :”I want to make more money next year”, that’s not going to cut it. You’ve got to be very specific.
Why? Because your mind is a laser-targeted missile. What you focus on you’ll get. If your goals are vague, you’ll get vague results….everytime 🙂
It’s better to write down something like this: “I am making $10,000/month by June 1, 2015”. Your mind will automatically start pulling the forces together to make this happen. Don’t believe me? I understand, I didn’t believe it either at first. Then I tried it in 2013, I set a goal to finally pay off my debt. I timidly wrote it down, still not quite believing. Then, extra money started flowing, I got better at handling my finances and before I knew it….$21,000 of debt was paid off before the end of 2013, just like I had written down. I’m now a BIG believer in being specific with your goals.
What if you don’t hit it your goals? Whatever you do, do NOT waste anytime wallowing and having a pity party about it. That’s just bad energy and doesn’t serve you at all. Instead, re-commit, adjust and move confidently toward your goals again with the mindset that you’re doing this UNTIL…
You have decided that you’ve decided you are ALL IN, no turning back. When you do this, it’s only a matter of time before you really do hit those goals.
5. What HABITS will you need to change?
Sometimes habits are hard to break, but if they’re standing in the way of your goals, it’s time to shatter them immediately! Your current habits have gotten you to where you are, but may not be able to take you to the next level. Examine and compare your habits to those successful mentors you have, to the top earners in your company. Do they have the same habits as you? Or different? It may be time to be coachable, follow directions and do what the successful people are doing, so you can have what they have. Recognize that your ego and pride could be keeping you from everything you really want, so get rid of them (or at least beat them down a little).
6. Your WHY is not enough to crush to your goals
We all talk about the “WHY that makes you cry” and all that. Sounds great, but does it really motivate you? Does it really pull you to get up and get going? The way to tell is are you taking the actions necessary each day to reach your goals, or, do things easily distract you off track? It’s time to create a vision that PULLS you. A wonderful book to help you in this area of crafting your vision is Mach II with Your Hair on Fire by Richard Bliss Brooke. To get you started though, ask yourself these questions to dig deeper:
1) When you reach this goal, what will you see through your new eyes?
Time to get real specific again – what will you be wearing? what will the weather be like? What will be the looks on people’s faces? Will you be on a stage in front of thousands, or with your family?
2) How will others see or view you?
this is great to think about for the naysayers in your life 🙂 who will you BE? will you now have more credibility? will they now be completely shocked that you REALLY made it happen?
3) What is the benefit of reaching your goal?
If it’s making that $10,000/month income, will you be able to pay all your bills, put money in savings, maybe buy a new car now? think of real specific benefits of your goals and write them down.
4) What is the benefit of the benefit?
Even deeper here — keeping with the $10,000/month income, will you have less stress because you don’t have to worry about money anymore? When you drive up in that new Porsche, will those naysayers have their jaws dropped to the floor in disbelief? Will you actually work harder and be more productive because you’ve proven to yourself that you’re a top earner and you love it?
So take some time here at the first of the year and use these 6 keys to prepare to absolutely CRUSH it this next year!
