Do you have a vision board or a treasure map? I got introduced to this concept a few years ago by Alice Hinckley, who is one of my mentors in my business. Every year Alice has a vision board party. Everybody comes over and they cut out things from magazines, and they put them on poster board.
What is so powerful about this is your mind focuses on something every single day, and if you don’t give it something to focus on, it will find something. It may not be what you want, but it will find something. Have you ever heard “If you focus on nothing, you’ll be sure to hit it?” It’s really true.
Why not go ahead and put what you want on your vision board?
What To Have On Your Vision Board
- Where do you want to go?
- How much money do you want to make?
- Do you want to be in better shape physically in the next 12 months?
- Do you want to reach your next promotion? (like me)
Put these goals in pictures and statements on your vision board and your brain will start to focus and go towards it.
On one of my vision boards, I have:
- A picture of the South Pacific because that’s where I want to go for my birthday this year.
- A picture of yoga (absolutely loving this new habit I started)
- A picture of the amount of money I want to make
- And lots of positive statements to myself
This vision board will go on my mirror in the bathroom (it’s small) and then I’m creating a bigger one for my office. Every day I’m in there several times a day and I’ll have a chance to look at this. I’m going to make a conscious decision every day to look at this vision board and imagine my life with these things and where I’m going. I may add to this throughout the year, but this is the beginning of it.
More Great Tips on How to Achieve Your Goals This Year
If you haven’t done this for yourself for this year or any year, now is a great time to start. No matter when you’re reading this, you can begin right now.
How To Make Your Vision Board
Go find some magazines or print off pictures from online of what you want, whether it’s a car, a house, a vacation, amount of money, or the way you want your body to look like. Put all of this on poster board, get it laminated and display your vision board where you can see it everyday to remind your brain of what you are going to achieve.
Start focusing on the things on your vision board and you’ll be amazed at how they actually happen. I have so many stories of people who have done that. The things they put on their vision board came true to a T! It’s crazy how the mind works.

Hi Elizabeth! Great ideas about the vision board. I’ve had mine for a year. I don’t have statements on it, but I have meditation poses, I like your yoga idea, and I have NYC, because I want to live in a nice apartment overlooking Central Park! Thanks for the inspiration! Erik
It’s really crazy how when you put things on the vision board and focus on it, your mind really does work towards it. Can’t wait to see a pic of your place overlooking Central Park soon!
