My Tony Robbins Firewalk Experience at Unleash the Power Within

Tony Robbins Firewalk

Me and Captain Claude after the Firewalk

Two weeks ago, I finally made it to the well-known transformation seminar by Tony Robbins called Unleash the Power Within.  I was excited because I had heard so much about the experience and even have a mentor, Alice Hinckley, who used to work with Tony at his events.  Something unexpected happened on the way to the firewalk though….

Tony Robbins spent most of the evening preparing us for the firewalk, going over our “state” and how to execute without getting hurt.  Of course, there is always a chance and they make that very clear, but if you do what they say, you’ll be fine.

As the time got closer to go out and do the firewalk, fear started to creep into my head, which seemed unusual for me.

I started to have a back and forth conversation, thinking “what if I get burned?  I’m headed to New York for the first time and that sure would be miserable if I can’t walk!”  Then, “You’ve got this, you’ve done crazy things before with NO fear, so why now?”

Then I started to analyze why I was more afraid now than in the past.

Could it be my age and experience, realizing I had more to lose now?

In the past, I would act, not think.  Sometimes that was good…and sometimes is definitely wasn’t!

Let’s look at the good part of acting first:

Acting first takes you out of fear, out of doubt.  Before you even know it, you’ve already done it and prove to yourself you CAN.

When you start thinking, doubt and fear creep in and those little voices start to take over, freezing your action right out.

I was MORE than prepared for the firewalk PHYSICALLY, when the time actually came.  The bigger battle was going on between my ears.

As I crept closer and closer to the the front of the line, I started coaching myself, saying “if all these people, for three decades have done the firewalk, so can I!”  and “all these people here tonight are just as scared as I am and they’re going to push through their fear and do the firewalk, so am I!”

So I went back through the times in my life where I had done crazy things and survived and realized I…was….ready!!!

I got to the front of the line, confidently put myself in the right state and marched right across that firewalk….I DID IT!!!

I can’t describe to you in words how it felt to accomplish that firewalk.

It wasn’t really about the firewalk though.

It’s about life and how we go through it and handle (or not handle) fear.

“Fear” would tell you that walking across coals that are at least 1200 degrees without getting burned isn’t possible.

“Fear” would tell you to not even try, it’s not worth it, what if, etc, etc, etc.

It’s time to punch fear in the face, don’t you think?

Get to Unleash the Power Within, conquer the firewalk, conquer your fears.

Your life, your abundant, beautiful life is waiting for you on the other side!

Your Firewalker,

Elizabeth
